City sites hit the heights

TEN Scottish attractions including the Scott Monument have been included in a list of the world’s top 1000 sights.

A book published by travel guide Lonely Planet has compiled 100 top-ten lists of the best natural and man-made sights. Included are the Scott Monument, the St Elmo’s Fire effect at Edinburgh Castle and Edinburgh Festival Fireworks.

Meanwhile, the Royal Botanic Garden has been named best UK historic property or garden by Which? Travel.
