a controlled explosive demolition blew down the first section of the boiler house structure at Cockenzie Power Station yesterday.

The explosion brought down the
‘de-aerator bay’ to the south side of
the building which is approximately
236 metres long, 14m wide and
56m high.

The event was open to be viewed by the public from the Greenhills, but both John Muir Way and Edinburgh Road were closed shortly before, during and after the explosion until the all-clear was sounded.

The remainder of the building is scheduled for demolition at a later date this winter.
