College is commended by report

AN external review of a Midlothian college has identified a number of strengths.

Education Scotland has published a review of Newbattle Abbey College in Dalkeith, which took place in December last year. It found almost all learners were motivated and interacted confidently with staff, and learner progression rates to Higher Education were “very high”.

The review stated the range and level of programmes met the needs of almost all learners and allowed them to access learning at appropriate levels.

It also pointed out that almost all learners made good progress in relation to their prior learning and experience.

Main points for action included the college improving the promotion of equality, diversity and sustainability within the curriculum.

It added that senior managers should continue to provide “effective direction for teaching staff to analyse performance indicators to address specific issues in attainment on the full-time award programme”.

Education Scotland said it was confident that the college had “high quality learning and teaching processes” in place.
