Composer credits News with movie success

A YOUNG film score composer from the Capital has heard his work premiered for the first time at a screening of Scottish superhero film Electric Man.

Blair Mowat, 25, who grew up in the Grange and attended George Heriot’s, said the Evening News had played a part in the success.

“My mum is always ringing me up to ask why I’m not scoring the latest action hero film,” he said. “She found an article about Electric Man in the Evening News and I knew this time she was on to a winner.”

Electric Man, an independent film set in Edinburgh, centres on the world of comic books.

“I love superhero movies so this was a dream score to write,” said Blair. “I was able to weave elements of all the iconic Batman, Superman and Spiderman themes into my work while still turning it into something unique to me.”

His soundtrack, heard by a sell-out audience at London’s Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square, won him a nomination for a Bafta Scotland New Talent Award in April.

Blair said: “I’ve started to have conversations with some big agencies, which feels like a turning point as to how the next few years might pan out.”
