Midlothian Council made steady improvements last year, according to a new report.

The local authority compared its progress with the average performance of all Scottish councils.

Its achievements included an increase in the amount of waste recycled.

Council leader Derek Milligan said: “I’m hopeful that we’ll keep doing well, but we should all know how hard it’s getting given the Scottish Government cuts being imposed on us.”
