The woman was grabbed by the men when she got home at 9.30pm and her husband was threatened with a knife when he returned a short time later, police said today.

Although they were left shaken, the couple were not seriously injured.

“A team of detectives is now investigating this robbery, and uniform officers are carrying out house to house inquiries in the neighbourhood.

“We know the vennel nearby is popular with dog walkers and cyclists, so I’m asking anyone who may have been in the area on Friday, and who may have seen any suspicious activity, suspicious vehicles, or anything out of the ordinary, to contact us on 0131 311 3131.”

The three men were all wearing dark clothes and one of them was wearing white trainers.

Two of them are described as being around 6ft and spoke with foreign accents while the other had a Scottish accent.
