Court bans football fan from games

A HEARTS fan has been ordered by a court to stay away from every SPL and international football match.

David Stewart, 30, was told by Sheriff Roderick MacLeod that he cannot indulge in his passion for soccer following a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Stewart, a joiner, is accused of assaulting Hugh Gilliland at his club’s Tynecastle home on October 11, 2011.

The soccer supporter is also accused of acting in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing at the ground in Gorgie on October 2.

Stewart is alleged to have committed this offence on the same day his team took on Celtic.

Stewart, of Corstorphine, Edinburgh, has pleaded not guilty to the two charges and is expected to stand trial in March 2012.

He was granted bail on the condition that he does not attend any Scottish Premier League clash or international encounter.
