POLICE are hunting a group of around ten people after a man was left with a serious head injury during an “altercation”.

The 30-year-old was assaulted by men and women in Guthrie Street, Cowgate, at 3.20am on Saturday.

He suffered a serious injury to his head and was taken by ambulance to the Western ­General Hospital.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses and have released descriptions of three of the ­suspects.

They are all described as white and in their early 20s. The woman is 5ft 5ins tall, of large build with short brown hair. She was wearing blue baggy jeans, a dark to, and an orange or pink cardigan.

The men are between 5ft 10ins and 6ft tall, slim to medium build, and were ­wearing t-shirt and shorts.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist their inquiries to contact Police Scotland on 101.
