Craigmillar packs tonic for troops

Parcels 4 Troops, an organisation set up to lift the spirits of British armed forces, has visited Thistle Foundation, Craigmillar, as the community packed more than 150 boxes of gifts for the 3rd Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland serving in Afghanistan.

Volunteers donated their time to help fill boxes with home comforts, including foodstuffs and toiletries.

Diana Noel-Paton, chief executive at Thistle Foundation, said: “As an organisation with military roots, we were really pleased to rally the local community. Hopefully, this small reminder of home will help to boost morale, and the soldiers will enjoy receiving the gifts as much as we enjoyed packing them.”

Alasdair Sutherland, founder of Parcels 4 Troops, added: “To date, we have sent nearly 11,000 shoe boxes containing home comforts to our troops. It’s great to see people eager to lend their support.”
