AN 80-year-old man is to stand trial for stealing more than £400 worth of household goods.

John Robertson, who was born in 1933, pleaded not guilty to a theft charge when he appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court.

Robertson, of Mayfield Drive, Armadale, West Lothian, denied stealing a quantity of household goods at Marjoribanks Street, in nearby Bathgate, on February 19 this year.

The pensioner was ordained to appear at the next hearing in October after the court was told he had never been in trouble before.

Sheriff Martin Edington issued a warrant for the arrest of Robertson’s co-accused James Jackson, 24, who lives in Marjoribanks Street, after he failed to turn up at court.

Like Robertson, Jackson was charged with the theft and released on a police bail undertaking to appear in court yesterday.
