Animal medication harmful to humans stolen from East Lothian farm

A LARGE batch of hazardous animal medication and hundreds of pounds have been stolen from a farm building in East Lothian.

The medication – which is used to sedate animals but can be harmful when ingested by humans – is clear liquid housed in 50ml white-labelled glass bottles with red lids.

The incident took place over the weekend, at some point between 6pm on Friday and 8am today. The farm is situated between Tranent and Ormiston.

Police said: “Our inquiries into this matter are at an early stage and our investigation is very much ongoing however I urge anyone who comes across this medication to contact police immediately as it poses a significant threat to someone’s health if consumed.

“Likewise, anyone who was in the area over the weekend and who remembers seeing any suspicious behaviour is asked to come forward.”
