Attacker threatened teenager with rape

A TEENAGER was told “you are getting raped” as an attacker seized her by the hair, a court heard.

Giving evidence from behind screens, the 18-year-old retail assistant said her ordeal in the early hours of September 1 last year had left her scared to go out alone.

She was walking home after spending the evening at a friend’s house when Steven Paterson pounced in Broughton Street.

In court Paterson, 35, claimed he had nowhere to go and wanted to commit an offence so that he could go to jail – but denied he was a sex attacker. However, a jury found him guilty of assault with intent to rape.

Judge Lord McEwan said: “You will, of course, be remanded in custody.”

Paterson will be sentenced next month.
