Cash taken in armed robbery at Blackburn post office

Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery at a post office in Blackburn.

The incident happened around 12.20pm on Tuesday August 7 at the premises within The Mill Centre.

A four-figure sum of cash was taken a 39-year-old and 18-year-old were quickly arrested after an appeal to the public.

The men will appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Wednesday 8th August.

Detective Inspector Paul Batten from Livingston CID said: “This incident was responded to quickly and investigated thoroughly with the local community providing timely information that led to swift arrests.

“We remain committed to tackling acquisitive crime in all forms and whenever such matters are reported to us and anyone found to be involved will be robustly dealt with.”

Chief Inspector Alun Williams added: “Armed robberies can have a significant impact on communities on the few occasions when they occur, but in this instance the public rallied tremendously and came forward with really helpful intelligence that assisted our inquiries.

“There is a genuine community spirit, and a strong relationship between police and local residents in Blackburn, and I’d like to personally thank all of those who assisted this investigation.”
