Donna Wood, 52, of Southhouse Gardens was handed a 12-month Restriction of Liberty Order, confining her to her property between 9pm and 6am.

Wood had pleaded guilty previously at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to stealing boxes of inhalators, blood testing strips and other pharmaceutical products from Cohens Pharmacy, Bonnyrigg Health Centre, between August 1, 2014, and June 3, 2015. Sentence had been deferred for a background report. Wood had no previous convictions.

Sheriff Frank Crowe told Wood her actions had been a gross breach of trust, but she was assessed at low risk of re-offending.

“I do think there are certain mental health issues,” he said, adding he was prepared to impose an alternative to a prison sentence.
