Edinburgh crime: Man, 29, arrested and charged after motorbike theft in Leith

Police have arrested a man following the theft of a motorbike in Leith.

The man, 22, was arrested and charged on Monday, August 8, after an offence linked to the theft of a motorbike from the Leith area in June 2022.

In a social media post, police announced the arrest and wrote: “Significant conditions are now in place to prevent his involvement in any further criminality.”

He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police are currently cracking down on motorcycle crime in the Capital, in response to significant community concerns linked to the theft and antisocial use of motorcycles across the city.

Since Operation Soteria launched on June 20, police have made several arrests and multiple motorbikes have been recovered.

Anyone with information about motorcycle crime or the dangerous use of motorcycles in the city can speak to officers confidentially and anonymously on 101, or through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
