But Kozlowski, 31, was in fact in contact with an undercover police officer who was part of a team attempting to snare online sex offenders.

Officers raided his flat in the Wardieburn area of Edinburgh in August last year and discovered several electronic devices that contained more than 400 horrific indecent images of children.

Koslowski pleaded guilty to three offences when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.

He has now been banned from using the internet to access legal pornography and from using social media accounts as part of a conduct requirement when he appeared for sentencing.

Sheriff Wendy Sheehan also placed Koslowski on the sex offenders register for two years and told him he must attend sessions with the Moving Forward Making Changes organisation.

Previously the court was told Kozlowski started messaging the Snapchat account belonging to ‘Sophie’ in June last year and the depraved chats soon moved to Skype.

The pervert then sent disgusting sexual comments to the account operated by the undercover police officer over the following two months.

Procurator fiscal depute Anna Robertson said: “During the course of the conversation he sends a video where he is seen and heard to be masturbating.”

The fiscal added following his arrest Kozlowski, currently of Leith, Edinburgh, was examined by a doctor and “skin pigmentation on his genitals matched that of the video sent”.

The court was told police seized a laptop and two mobile phones from Kozlowski’s flat and found a total of 451 child abuse images with 43 rated as Category A - the most depraved end of the spectrum.

His lawyer said Koslowski was a first offender and has shown ”genuine remorse” has been attending appointments with the child sex offender rehabilitation scheme Stop It Now.

Kozlowski pleaded guilty to possessing, and taking or allowing to be taken, indecent photos of children at his home between May 1, 2012 and September 23 last year.

He also admitted to sending sexually explicit communications to a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl and to sending photos of his penis and video of him masturbating between June 10 and August 7 last year.
