The alcohol-fuelled get-together, which took place between 1pm and 1am at Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park, involved a large group of youths, some who were racing motorcycles.

According to reports, the youths were drinking, littering and racing two off road motorbikes around the park.

"I was in the park yesterday and the whole area was just a mess. There was all sorts of paraphernalia strewn around - broken bottles, cans, nitrous oxide canisters, you name it.

"There was also cans of deodorant, which can obviously be used by some people to get high.

"On the whole, there has clearly been extensive drug use going on.

"I don't know what the police officers discovered when they got there, but this was not a well-behaved bunch of young people.

"They were breaking the law in lots of different ways and I don't think it's too much to ask the police to uphold the law in these sorts of circumstances.

"I've been told by local residents that on both occasions it was around the 50-mark of those in attendance.

"I just hope that there will be an attempt to uphold the law, and try and avoid a tragedy, because if this kind of behaviour carries on then I think it's entirely conceivable that somebody could die.

"It's very possible that some of the kids who were riding the motorbikes were under the influence, so it's very possible they could either have an accident themselves or someone else who is just out for a walk could get seriously hurt.”
