Police in Midlothian are appealing for witnesses after an elderly couple were robbed at their home in Mayfield.

The incident happened around midnight at an address in Oak Crescent.

A 74-year-old man had alighted a Number 3 bus at around 11.30pm on Thursday and returned to his house.

A short time later a male called at the door before pushing past the victim and stealing two bags containing various tools from inside.

The man did not sustain any injury during the incident, nor did his wife, who was also within the property.

Local officers are now conducting various lines of enquiry to trace the man responsible and anyone who can assist in identifying this individual is asked to come forward. He is described as white, 20-30-years-old, over 6ft tall with a medium build and wearing a hooded top and jeans.
