Family’s pain as fatal crash driver cleared

THE family of a student who died in a road crash said they had been “slapped in the face” by the decision to clear a driver of killing her.

Euan Tennant, 22, of York Place, Edinburgh, was cleared by a jury of causing the death of his girlfriend Laura Campbell, 22, by driving carelessly and too fast and crashing his sports car near Perth.

But Laura’s family today said they felt they had been let down by the justice system after the five-day trial at Perth Sheriff Court.

Her brother Duncan said: “There are very few, non-emotive words I could use to describe my response to what has happened.

“I feel that we have received a slap in the face for her memory and the five days spent in court. You put your trust in other people’s hands, only to feel let down.

“I’m trying to reflect and decipher what it is that my family and I can learn from this and, unfortunately, there seems to be very few lessons we can take away.

“We must simply return home and live with this now.”

The jury took less than an hour to find the case not proven.
