FORMER Scotland international Garry O’Connor is to stand trial next month charged with driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

O’Connor, who recently signed for Scottish League side Greenock Morton, is accused of driving his £35,000 Chrysler 300C in Port Seton, East Lothian, after taking an unknown substance.

The former-Hibs striker was stopped on the B1348 by police officers on June 19 last year – just hours after being fined £500 during a court appearance for missing four community service charges issued for a previous offence.

The 30-year-old footballer was subsequently arrested and charged and taken to Edinburgh’s St Leonard’s police station where he was medically examined by a doctor and forced to give a blood sample.

O’Connor, of Longniddry, East Lothian, who appeared in person will return to the court to stand trial in March.
