Heavy armed police presence reported as officers block off section of Leith Walk

A section of Leith Walk was blocked off by Police on Wednesday morning as armed officers were seen on the street.

An eyewitness reported seeing a heavy police presence on Leith Walk, at the junction of Brunswick Street, at around 6.30am on Wednesday.

She told the Evening News that officers had closed a section of the walk at Elm Row to pedestrians and that a number of armed officers were in attendance, entering a property on the street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Edinburgh carried out a pre-planned firearms operation around 6am at a property on Elm Row in connection with an ongoing investigation.

"Enquires remain ongoing.”
