A SCHEMING ice cream boss who used the lure of his van to abuse young boys has been jailed for seven years.
A judge told Billy McGill, 51, that the offences committed during his 24 years of depravity had been carefully planned.
A trial heard how McGill recruited the youngsters to assist him on his ice cream rounds in West Lothian and Lanarkshire.
He then persuaded them to stay overnight in his caravan, tempting them with drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.
He was convicted to a total of eight charges of indecency, indecent assault attempted sodomy and sodomy dating back to 1988.
His five victims were between nine and 14 years old.
At the High Court in Edinburgh today/yesterday (Mon) judge Lady Scott told McGill: “The nature of these offences and the degree of planning and the gross breach of trust involved suggests you pose a serious risk to boys and young men.”
McGill of 25 Kirk Brae, Longridge, West Lothian, had denied the offences, claiming he was the victim of an internet smear by a rival ice cream seller.
