POLICE in East Lothian are appealing for information following a housebreaking and theft in Haddington.

The break-in took place between 6.30pm on Sunday 31 January and 6.30am on Monday 1 February at a property on Gateside Road.

Entry was forced to the rear of the property and a number of household fixtures and fittings were stolen from within.

PC Chris Smith of Haddington said: “We suspect, due to the quantity and weight of the items stolen, that a large vehicle must have been involved. We’re urging anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour by persons or a vehicle in the area around this time to come forward.

“I’d also like to remind people to be wary if they are offered household goods or fixtures for which the seller cannot provide proof of ownership. If you purchase stolen items, knowingly or otherwise, they can be returned to their original owners meaning a financial loss for yourself.”

For advice on how to protect your property from potential thieves speak please to a local officer, contact 101 or visit the Police Scotland website.
