The night manager of Edinburgh’s upmarket Le Monde hotel and nightclub in George Street, who helped himself to £18,000 from the till, has been jailed for 12 months.

Twenty-six year old Mark Flay of Dargai Place, Uphall, pled guilty previously at the city’s Sheriff Court to embezzling the money between October 2012, and March last year.

Sentence had been deferred until today for background reports.

Flay, who was the most senior member of staff on duty at night, had access to the till system if required to make any refunds to customers.

He was caught when the company’s IT Manager noticed that the funds were lower than they should have been, with three withdrawals in the early hours of the morning.

On viewing CCTV footage, Flay was seen, on his own, operating the till system, taking money and putting the receipts in his pocket.
