A man has been arrested after aggressive and unacceptable sexualised comments were made towards young girls.

Police received reports on June 17 that a man was making sexualised comments to young girls in Lewisvale Park in Musselburgh, and was also acting aggressively towards others.

Following local response officers making enquiries, they identified further unreported incidents and arrested a 26-year old male

He has been charged with offences under the Sexual Offences Scotland Act (SOSA) and also for threatening and abusive behaviour.

He will be held in custody until he appears in Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

In a statement on social media, Police Scotland said: “This type of behaviour will never be tolerated. Females should always feel safe when they are out and not subject to such unacceptable comments or behaviour.

“If you are concerned or witness unacceptable conduct please report this immediately to us on 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
