Man, 44, in court accused of double attempted murder in the Pleasance after attack victim suffers '6 stab wounds'

Steven Baird, 35, was one of two men taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident last Friday afternoon.
Stephen Murphy, 44, was charged in connection with the incident and appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday on two counts of attempted murder, assault to severe injury and danger of life. He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

Hide AdSpeaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, Mr Baird’s younger brother said doctors told their mother, who has been at his bedside in intensive care, that he suffered six stab wounds including a punctured lung as well as wounds to his neck, stomach, hand and back.
He said: “I was pretty shocked and our whole family is pretty shocked by what happened.”
Mr Baird’s brother, who did not want to be named, said he underwent emergency surgery in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident and is now conscious and beginning to stabilize after waking from a coma on Tuesday.
The family also want to thank a police dog handler who was apparently first on the scene on Friday and helped to save his life.

Hide AdA 44-year-old man, understood to be a friend of Mr Baird’s, was also seriously injured in the attack.
Police were called to the Pleasance at about 1:40pm following the incident, which resulted in the temporary close of the street between West Richmond Street and Arthur Place.
