A MAN was attacked and seriously injured as he made his way to the corner shop in Wester Hailes.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack which happened sometime between 2.30pm and 3pm on Friday in the Hailesland Grove area.

The 52-year-old victim had left his home in Murrayburn Gardens and made his way to Michael’s Corner Shop.

While somewhere near the store, the victim has become involved in an altercation with two men who subsequently attacked him.

Following the assault, the man went home before going to the ERI at around 12.50am the following morning.

He has since been transferred to the Western General Hospital where he continues to be treated for serious injuries to his head and face.

Police are now urging anyone with information to come forward. There is currently no description of the suspects.

Detective Sergeant Neil Spowart said: “The victim has sustained a number of serious and painful injuries and we are trying to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.

“Anyone who was in the Hailesland Grove area on Friday afternoon and witnessed the attack or saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is also asked to get in touch.”
