A man has been slashed across the face after answering the door to a house in Livingston.

He is now in hospital awaiting plastic surgery following the attack in the Linden Grove area of the town’s Craigshill on Saturday morning

After being injured the 27-year-old victim ran to a nearby shop for help, where police were called.

Detective Constable Craig Waddell, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a vicious and apparently unprovoked assault by two men, who may have fled the scene in a small, silver-coloured hatchback car.

“I am appealing for anyone who has any information about this assault, or recognises the description of the two men who were allegedly involved. They are both white, in their late 20s and around five foot nine inches in height. One had pale skin and was wearing jeans, a navy blue top and had a black scarf covering his face and hood, while the other was of medium build, wearing a hat and scarf covering his face.

“We have no information to suggest a motive for this crime, so it is vital we catch the two men involved as soon as we can. It is possible they made their escape in a small, silver hatchback car, and I would ask anyone who recognises the description or saw such a car in the area at around 11:30 on Saturday morning to come forward. They should call 101 or alternatively pass the information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
