Man tricked his way into pensioner's home to steal cash

A BOGUS caller stole cash after tricking her way into a pensioner's home.

The woman knocked on the door of a 67-year-old man in Esk Place, Dalkeith, on Friday around 5.30pm and asked for a drink of water.

The homeowner let her in - only to discover once she’d left that she had stolen £80 from his wallet.

Police are keen to trace the woman, who was described as being white, in her early 20s and wearing a black, belted jacket and dark cap or hat.

Sergeant Bryan Jones of Dalkeith Police Station said: “These bogus caller crimes can have a devastating effect on the well-being of the victims and we are keen to trace the individual responsible as soon as possible.”

Anyone who has any information that may help identify the female is asked to get in touch.
