A DISGRACED hotel night manager who stole £18,000 from his employers has had his jail sentence quashed and been ordered to pay his old bosses compensation.
Mark Flay,26, was handed a 12 month prison stretch after pleading guilty to stealing the cash from Edinburgh’s Le Monde hotel between October 11 2012 and March 4 last year.
The city’s sheriff court heard how Flay was a trusted member of staff at the four star leisure complex - once voted one of Britain’s most trendiest hotels.
But he abused his position of trust and took the cash from a till in the hotel’s nightclub prompting Sheriff Paul Arthurson QC to jail him.
Following a hearing at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh today, Flay had his jail sentence quashed.
Appeal Court judges ruled the sentence was too harsh and ordered Flay to repay the £18,000 to his ex bosses.
Lady Clark of Calton and Lord Eassie also ordered Flay, of Uphall, West Lothian, to pay the court a £1,000 fine.
