POLICE have launched a murder inquiry after an attack victim lost his fight for life.

The 31-year-old was attacked in Dumbryden Grove, Wester Hailes, at around 4.30pm on Friday.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal infirmary in a critical condition. But police said the man died early today. He has not been named.

Police are still appealing for for any witnesses or anyone who may have information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Grant Johnston, who is leading the enquiry, said: “This is now a murder and the Major Investigation Team are progressing all enquiries.

“A member of the public may hold a key piece of information that could assist with the investigation, and we are appealing to anyone who saw anything in and around Dumbryden Gardens on Friday afternoon to get in touch as soon as possible.

The Area Commander Chief Inspector Mark Rennie stated: “We have been carrying out high-visibility patrols in the Wester Hailes area and will continue to do so. We are keen to reassure residents that, at this stage, the incident appears to be isolated.”
