Officers catch drug dealer at wedding

A DRUG dealer was caught by police arriving at a hotel to sell cocaine at a wedding it was hosting, a court heard.

Officers seized more than £30,000 worth of the drug after Peter Whellans was detained at an Edinburgh hotel.

Whellans, 35, told them he had drugs in a holdall and in a car. Further quantities were later recovered at his home.

Advocate depute Pino Di Emidio told the High Court in Edinburgh: “He stated that he was going to sell the cocaine at a wedding at the hotel.”

Police found a total of 44 wraps of the Class A drug in the holdall and car, and £940 in cash. Whellans said he had made up the deals that day.

A search of his home in Preston Terrace, Prestonpans, revealed a safe containing scales, blocks of cocaine and further wraps of the drug. More than £2000 in cash was also found.

Unemployed Whellans yesterday admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug between April 17 and June 17 last year. He was told by Judge Lady Stacey to expect a jail sentence.
