AN ELDERLY man has been attacked and robbed in his home by a suspected bogus workman.

Police say the 83-year-old victim had answered the door of his home in Ladywell, Musselburgh, to the man offering to carry out work at around 1pm yesterday.

The suspect forced his way inside the house before there was a minor struggle which resulted in the victim being robbed of a three-figure sum of money.

Detectives have now appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, late 40s, around 5ft 10ins with messy short brown hair and a dirty-looking complexion. He was wearing a blue rain jacket, light-coloured shirt and dark trousers, which were said to be dark and dirty.

A police spokesman said: “While this appears to have been an attempted bogus workman incident, it has become a robbery within the elderly victim’s home.

“Fortunately the victim was not injured during this robbery but was left very shaken and we are eager to speak to anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in or around Ladywell on Sunday afternoon.

“Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect is also asked to get in touch.”
