Police ‘disappointed’ after multiple Lothian motorists arrested for drink driving and speeding during lockdown

The number of motorists caught speeding and drink driving during the lockdown is “very disappointing”, according to police in the Lothians.

Officers conducting routine road and speed checks in East Lothian yesterday arrested and charged three separate motorists with drink driving.

Police also charged two other drivers with speeding, and seized three cars in the operation.

In a Facebook post, East Lothian Police said the arrests were “very disappointing”, and reiterated the warnings: “Do not drink and drive” and “drive to speed limits.”

It comes after officers patrolling the Lothians on Friday night arrested and charged a van driver who failed a breathalyzer test.

Police said the man had been reporter to the Procurator Fiscal for drink driving.
