Police in the Capital are stepping up investigations following the attempted murder of a 55-year-old man in his doorway of his home on Saturday.

The incident happened around 1.45am on Ravenscroft Street yet officers have been quick to stress they believe this to have been an ‘isolated incident’ with ‘no wider threat to the general public’.

Investigations are taking place in the area and CCTV footage is being examined.

The man suffered a serious injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gray of Gayfield CID said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing into the attempted murder and officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area, and checking CCTV footage to gather more information.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.

“This is believed to have been an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the general public.”
