Safety fears as industrial fireworks stolen

Police in Midlothian are issuing a security warning after a quantity of industrial fireworks were stolen from a storage facility near Gorebridge.

The theft is believed to have taken place some time between Friday 7th November and Tuesday 11th November, when a container was broken into and the fireworks were taken.

Enquiries are continuing into this theft, but police are warning people to be on the lookout and to be wary of purchasing fireworks, which could be dangerous to members of the public.

Police Sergeant Graeme Brockie said: “These industrial fireworks do not operate in the same way as the general fireworks that members of the public would purchase. They require specialist knowledge, therefore if they get into the wrong hands they could cause serious injury, not only to the operator but to anyone nearby.

“If anyone has been offered industrial fireworks for sale, or has knowledge of their whereabouts, they should contact police on 101 immediately.
