Second teenager arrested over death of Shaun Woodburn

A SECOND teenager has been arrested in connection with the death of a junior footballer.

Shaun Woodburn, 30, died after sustaining serious injuries in a disturbance in Leith in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the 2am incident in Great Junction Street and died later that day.

A 16-year-old man has previously been charged with murder – and now a 17-year-old man is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.

Detective Inspector Stuart Alexander of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team said: “We are committed to pursuing every possible line of inquiry as part of our ongoing investigation into Shaun’s death, and our condolences remain with his family and friends.”

In a tribute issued previously issued through Police Scotland, Shaun’s family said: “Shaun was first and foremost a fantastic and loving dad, he was a great and caring son, brother, partner and friend. He was a hard working young man loved by all of his colleagues and had an honours degree in architectural engineering from Heriot Watt University.

“Shaun also had a passion for playing football and latterly with Bonnyrigg Rose only to give up to spend more time with his family.”
