A Sky fanatic stole merchandise branded with the satellite channel’s logo in a series of bizarre thefts.

Sean Thomson forced open display cabinets in three Edinburgh shopping centres, Livingston Sheriff Court heard yesterday (Wednesday).

He carried out the copycat break-ins at The Gyle, Ocean Terminal and Cameron Toll over a two week period.

His first raid at The Gyle on August 13 last year netted him two T-shirts, some lanyards and other Sky merchandise and literature.

Two more raids followed on August 26, fiscal depute Catherine Knowles toldnthe court.

Thomson escaped with branded merchandise and a Sky “buddy” from the Sky store at Ocean Terminal and more merchandise, two sets of keys and a Sky sale folder from Cameron Toll.

Thomson, 29, of Buckstone Crescent, Edinburgh, pled guilty to three charges of forcing open lockfast places and stealing goods.

He was sentenced to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work under a community payback order.
