Storm Darcy: Shocked police officers pull over car in Edinburgh which had a windscreen caked in ice

Police were left stunned after stopping a driver whose windscreen was almost entirely iced over.

A driver has been charged with Dangerous Driving after being pulled over by police on Maybury Road, Edinburgh.

Storm Darcy has caused chaos across the country this week as the intense weather has made road conditions treacherous.

Officers have warned failure to take the time in the morning to de-ice a car to ensure the driver has good visibility is dangerous.

Officers stopped the vehicle on Thursday morning on Maybury Road in Edinburgh.

Photographs show a layer of ice and frost obscuring the windscreen.

A police spokesperson said: “A pedestrian or cyclist wouldn't stand a chance of being seen.

"The driver has been cautioned and charged with Dangerous Driving and has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal."

Scotland recorded the UK’s coldest February night since 1955 last night, and the Met Office have warned that conditions are not forecast to improve soon.

A further yellow warning has been issued across the central belt and west of Scotland and will remain in place until midnight on Saturday.
