KNITWEAR worth up to £30,000 has been stolen from the studio of top design company Belinda Robertson in East Lothian.

Thieves broke into the premises at Fenton Barns, North Berwick, and took the entire collection of cashmere, fine jersey and accessories.

The company, founded by Belinda Dickson, right, claims to produce “the finest, most luxurious Scottish cashmere in the world”.

The outlet has remained closed since Tuesday last week when staff arrived and discovered the raid had taken place.

Publicity for a sample sale event may have alerted the thieves to the barn shop.

A spokeswoman said: “The thieves had smashed their way into the building late at night, which was the only saving grace in that no staff were on site and no-one got hurt.”

The exact value of the stock is still being assessed.

It is hoped the studio will reopen in the next few days.
