Police are investigating allegations of financial irregularities at the University of Edinburgh.

It is understood that the university contacted police with concerns about a former staff member in a “support department”.

A spokesman for Police Scotland: “We have received a complaint regarding concerns over the management of finances at Edinburgh University by a former employee.

“The Economic Crime Unit has a positive line of enquiry and while our investigation is ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
