Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their inquiries to come forward and advising anyone in possession of the morphine to not consume it.

Inspector George Thomson, from Craigmillar Police Station, said: “As part of inquiries by Operation RAC officers we are looking to speak to anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious around Restalrig Road South between Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.

“I would also strongly urge anyone who currently has the stolen prescription medication to either dispose of it safely or hand it in to their local police station.

“Morphine and valium are for prescribed users only and can have a significant impact on your health if you ingest these without requirement.”
