The 20-year-old lout was left lying injured in the middle of the road and also caused injury to children within the car after losing control of his motorcycle.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard McGhee was subsequently treated by medics for various injuries including a ruptured spleen, numerous cuts to his face and the injury to his penis where “the skin had been removed”.

McGhee pleaded guilty to four road offences including dangerous driving when he appeared in the dock at the capital court last month.

He returned to the dock yesterday where Sheriff Adrian Cottam banned him from the road and ordered him to wear an electronic tag for the next 10 weeks.

Previously prosecutor Eilidh Yeats told the court McGhee was spotted riding the powerful Yamaha motorbike on Muirhouse Parkway on August 17 last year.

Ms Yeats said witnesses believed McGhee, of Bellvue, Edinburgh, was riding the bike at speeds between 80 and 100mph before the collision with the car.

The fiscal added the family travelling in the car turned onto Muirhouse Parkway and had not seen any vehicle coming towards them.

But just moments after entering the street McGhee suddenly appeared behind them on the bike and proceeded to “collide with the vehicle”.

Ms Yeats said McGhee was thrown over the roof of the car due to the collision and a 15-year-old boy who had been in the back seat suffered an injury that caused blood to come from his ear.

The fiscal said McGhee suffered serious injuries including a broken elbow and “a lacerated penis”.

Solicitor Euan Gosney, defending, said the crash involved “a high performance” vehicle and due to the incident his client now suffers from “nightmares and has trouble sleeping”.

Sheriff Cottam said: “You will know there has been lots of publicity about bike crime in your area and there is a lot of talk about the dangers of people riding motorbikes causes - you now know exactly why people say that.

“I have sympathy for you suffering horrific injuries but that is why you should do not this type of crime.”

The sheriff banned McGhee from driving for 16 months and told him he must stay within his home address while wearing a tag between 8pm and 6.30am for the next 10 weeks.

McGhee as also placed on an offenders supervision order for six months.
