TWO women have been ordered to pay compensation to a couple they attacked outside a court building.

Carolyn and Carrie Burnett were earlier found guilty of assaulting Yvonne Rankin.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard the pair from Blackridge, West Lothian, punched and kicked Ms Rankin on the head and body and pulled her by the hair, injuring her.

Ms Rankin works as secretary to Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP Michael Connarty in his Bathgate office.

Carolyn Burnett, 46, was found guilty of a further charge of assaulting Paul Rankin by punching him on the head during the same incident at West Lothian Civic Centre on May 30, 2012.

Passing sentence yesterday Sheriff Martin Edington imposed a restriction of liberty order on Carolyn Burnett, electronically tagging her on a curfew for 12 days.

He put Carrie Burnett, 20, on a community payback order under which she will have to carry out 120 hours of unpaid within 12 months.

The sheriff also ordered each of the accused to pay compensation of £200 to their victims at the rate of £10 a week.
