Crumbling hospital to be torn down

A FORMER hospital is set to be demolished to “mitigate security issues” after the site was put up for sale by NHS Lothian.

The crumbling Loanhead Hospital was closed to make way for services to be switched to the Midlothian Community Hospital in Dalkeith.

Providing security and maintenance for the site has led to the decision to demolish the hospital buildings in Hunter Avenue, Loanhead.

This will also make way for investigations to take place at the site of potential historical mineworkings before the land is sold for redevelopment.

Midlothian Community Hospital provides beds for the elderly, out-of-hours service and radiography.
