MIDLOTHIAN Council is among six public bodies fined for personal data security breaches in the last year.

The authority was fined £140,000 for sending details on children and their carers to the wrong people five times within 12 months.

The Information Commissioner’s Office revealed 730 reported breaches across the country, some 281 said to be the result of human error, including e-mails sent by mistake and documents sent to the wrong address. A further 170 were due to data or hardware being stolen.
