City leader Jenny Dawe has praised police and council staff for their handling of recent far-right and anti-fascist marches.

Around 150 anti-Islamic activists held a rally at Waterloo Place last Saturday, while 250 members of Unite Against Fascism staged a counter- demonstration at The Mound.

Councillor Dawe said: “I would like to congratulate the police and council staff, whose meticulous preparation ensured that the event passed off remarkably smoothly.”
