POLICE are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a common stair as “unexplained”.
The man - who has not been identified - was discovered in the building in Portland Street, Leith at around 6pm on Sunday.
Neighbours said forensic specialists carried out an examination of the scene following the discovery.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said they were investigating “following the discovery of a man’s body in the common stair of a flatted property in Portland Street, Leith at around 6pm on Sunday.
“The death of the middle-aged man is currently being treated as unexplained.”
A neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s really quite scary when you see people coming out in the white overalls. I’ve never seen so many police around here at all, or forensics.”
Another resident said: “I first saw the police and ambulances outside and then heard them in the stair.”
