A PATIENT threatened to give medics “a kicking” after being refused entry to a hospital’s psychiatric unit.

Dean Martin, 22, lost his temper at St John’s Hospital in Livingston after being told he was fit to look after himself.

Fiscal depute Andrew Richardson told Livingston Sheriff Court: “He didn’t like that answer and started shouting and swearing at doctors and nurses, threatening them.

“He was told to calm down but shouted ‘I’ll show you clenched fists. I’ll give you a kicking. I’ll go for you!’.”

Martin, from Armadale, was admonished today when he appeared for sentence after earlier pleading guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on June 2, 2012.

Defence lawyer Glenn Fraser said the accused suffered from a “severe enduring illness” and wanted to apologise.

He said Martin had been told to ask for treatment when he felt unwell.

Sheriff Douglas Kinloch described Martin’s behaviour as “unacceptable” but said it could have been a one-off.
