Disabled bay parking gets new rules

New parking regulations for the benefit of disabled people have just come into force in Midlothian.

The changes will mean anyone parking in a designated on-street disabled bay who does not have a valid Blue Badge could be hit with a fine of £60.

In the coming months, the regulations will also extend to disabled parking bays in the car parks of all buildings owned by Midlothian Council, such as libraries and leisure centres.

Only bays marked on the road are enforceable.

Residents who have a disabled parking sign displayed rather than road markings can apply for a Disabled Persons’ Parking Place to ensure the space can be enforced.

To get an application form for a disabled parking bay, contact Roads Services at Midlothian Council’s Fairfield House on 0131-271 3398.
